SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, in particular to a crystalline modification of 2-[(4-chlorophenyl)phenylacetyl]-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione (chlorofacinone) characterized by the following values of the parameters of the crystallographic cell: sp. gr. P 21 / c, a = 16.70 (2) Å, b = 5.62 (3) Å, c = 20.2 (1) Å, β = 109.4(8)°, Z = 4. Method of obtaining crystalline modification 2-[(4 -chlorophenyl) phenylacetyl]-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione is carried out by adding 2-[(4-chlorophenyl) phenylacetyl]-1H-indene-1,3 (2H) -dione and low-chain chloroform to the chlorofacinone substance alcohol selected from the group - ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol and n-propyl alcohol, and heated under temperature control in the range of 55-65°C until complete dissolution, after cooling to room temperature, the resulting solution is crystallized. Crystalline modification 2-[(4-chlorophenyl) phenylacetyl] -1H-indene-1,3 (2H) -dione (chlorofacinone) has a toxicological characteristic in the form of the DL50 toxicity parameter with intragastric administration at the level of 2.73 ±0.83 mg / kg for male rats Rattus norvegicus (Berk.).
