SUBSTANCE: device contains a set of imaging pixels, a set of elements placed over a plurality of pixels. The first and second elements of the set of elements are positioned above the first pixel of the plurality of pixels and are offset from each other. The first and second phosphors are disposed in, respectively, the first and second elements or above them. The device also contains a structured illumination source for directing part of the first photons to the first element at the first time and part of the second photons to the second element at the second time. The first pixel is configured to selectively receive luminescence emitted by the first phosphor at the first time and emitted by the second phosphor at the second time. The structured light source has an illumination pattern generator containing an actuator for moving or rotating the illumination pattern relative to a set of elements. The illumination pattern generator contains a masking layer, and its actuator contains a masking layer actuator for moving or rotating it relative to a set of elements.
EFFECT: invention increases the throughput of the sequencing device.
