FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electroactive polymer-based drive gears, particularly to actuation thereof. Actuation signal is supplied to an electroactive polymer-based structure to switch it from a first activation state to a second activation state. The actuation signal comprises an overexcitation period wherein the drive signal voltage changes from the first voltage to the overexcitation voltage by an amount exceeding the difference between the second voltage and the first voltage. The overexcitation period is followed by a holding period wherein the excitation signal voltage constitutes the second voltage at least at the beginning of said period.
EFFECT: improved response speed without damage to the structure based on an electroactive polymer.
