SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of animal husbandry, in particular to horse breeding, and can be used to assess the athletic qualities of horses. A method for evaluating the speed qualities of thoroughbred stallions based on the elemental composition of hair, which can be used to evaluate the speed qualities of stallions, is announced. The method includes the selection of hair of at least 0.4 g from the mane area in the projection area of the first cervical vertebra, 30 days before the upcoming competitions, the assessment of Hg and Si concentrations by atomic emission and mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, the determination of the toxic load coefficient, which is derived using the formula with the calculation of the toxic load coefficient K. If the coefficient values are less than 1.05 units, the speed qualities are evaluated as high, with the coefficient values in the range of 1.06-29.91 units as average, and with a coefficient greater than 29.92 units as low.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to evaluate thoroughbred stallions’ speed qualities.
