METHOD FOR DETERMINING SARCOPENIA USING A QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF MUSCLE TISSUE ACCORDING TO COMPUTER TOMOGRAPHY OF THE CHEST Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC A61B6/03 A61B5/107

Abstract RU 2754291 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to the section of radiation diagnostics, and can be used to determine sarcopenia according to the data of an overview computer tomography of the chest area. The quantitative assessment of muscle tissue is carried out according to the data of images oriented in the axial plane obtained during contrast-free computer tomography. At the same time, using three consecutive computer tomographic images of the chest at the level of the intervertebral disc Th8-9, the area is measured on each of the three consecutive axial images: m. latissimus dorsi, m. scalenus anterior dorsi, m. intercostales externi, m. erector spinae, m.trapezius, taking into account the interval of density characteristics of muscle tissue in the range from -29 HU to +150 HU. The muscle body index (MBI, cm2/m2) is calculated as the ratio of the arithmetic mean value of the area of muscle tissue of three dimensions (cm2) to the square of the patient's height (m2). Sarcopenia is determined in a patient with an MBI value of less than 33.85 cm2/m2 in a male subject and less than 24.85 cm2/m2 in a female person.

EFFECT: provides a non-invasive determination of sarcopenia during a routine computer tomographic examination without the use of contrast agents due to the quantitative assessment of muscle tissue.
