SUBSTANCE: used to determine the muscle mass index. The area of skeletal muscles measured on an axial section of computed tomography at the level of the middle of the Th12 vertebral body is determined. Then the height of the thoracic spine is determined on sagittal sections of computed tomography as the shortest distance between the most cranially located point of the Th1 vertebral body and the plane passing through the most caudal point of the Th12 vertebral body perpendicular to the scanning axis. Then, taking into account the obtained indicators, the muscle mass index is determined using a given formula.

EFFECT: determining the muscle mass index at the level of the Th12 vertebra according to computed tomography data in the absence of data on the patient’s height due to the combination of methods of the claimed invention.
