SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to an apparatus and method for correcting the equilibrium and walking functions in patients with vestibulocerebellar ataxia. The apparatus comprises a rectangular base rigidly connected with a vertical frame, and fixing supports. Eyelets for attaching elastic elements made in the form of spring elements are located on the upper corners of the vertical frame and on the vertical stands of the frame. A seat equipped with a safety system represented by semi-rigid fasteners in the form of belts is fixed to the elastic elements located on the vertical stands of the frame by means of cables. The system of semi-rigid fasteners is attached to the shoulders, the body and the lower limbs, configured to be adjusted, and in the area of the shoulders of the patient is connected with the spring elements located in the upper corners of the frame using carabiners and cables. The method includes shifting the centre of gravity of the person along the vertical axis using an apparatus for correcting the equilibrium and walking functions. The shift is executed separately and in doses, at the lower or upper point of the amplitude of oscillation, by 2 to 5 cm for 30 minutes, at a frequency of 15 to 30 oscillations per minute. The total amplitude of oscillation is 4 to 10 cm.

EFFECT: increase in the effectiveness of treatment of equilibrium and walking dysfunction is achieved, wherein safety and reduction of the risk of falls in neurological patients are ensured.
