SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for estimation of information exchange in communication systems. For a selected time interval, the cybernetic power and the power of information losses of the communication system are determined, the "real" (effective) cybernetic power is found using the obtained values, and the parameter of the efficiency of information transmission of the communication system considering the information losses is calculated, indicating the degree of proximity of the communication system with the ultimate information transmission capabilities thereof, considering the packet losses arising during information exchange.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of estimating the efficiency of information transmission by measuring the total average amount of lost packets and the intensity of the retransmission flow for a selected time interval by determining the power of information losses of the communication system on the basis thereof and using it to specify the values of the cybernetic power and the efficiency of information transmission of the communication system.
