FIELD: infrared absorption spectrum obtaining.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to obtain the infrared absorption spectrum of surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) by a thin layer of the substance. The substance of the invention consists in the fact that a thin layer of a substance is deposited on a flat face of a metal substrate, generation on the face of broadband SPP by thermal fluctuations of the density of conduction electrons, measurement of the spectra of the bulk radiation generated by SPP before and after deposition of the layer, calculation of the absorption spectrum of the layer according to the measurement results, which differs by the fact that the radiation from the SPP track is recorded after they have traveled along the section of the edge containing the layer of a distance exceeding the propagation length of the SPP with the highest frequency of the working spectral interval.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of obtaining an undistorted IR absorption spectrum of SPP by a thin layer of the substance and increasing the sensitivity of the method of passive absorption SPP spectroscopy.
