FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy and nuclear power and can be used in the manufacture of neutron-absorbing material. A two-layer titanium-copper barrier coating is applied to the particles of powdered titanium hydride by electrodeposition. For this, a cathode is used, which is a polypropylene glass filled with particles of powdered titanium hydride, into which spiral-shaped steel rods are immersed along its entire length, moving up and down during electrodeposition. First, the first layer is applied - metallic titanium, using a freshly prepared solution containing, g/l: tetrabutoxytitanium (TBT) - 210-230; titanium chloride - 115-205; ethanol - 335-430; dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) - 225-250; at a current density of 3.2-3.8 A/dm2 for 125-145 minutes. Thereafter, the titanium metal coated titanium hydride powder particles are filtered, washed and dried. Then a second layer is applied to them - metallic copper, using the same cathode and a freshly prepared 30% aqueous solution of copper sulfate (CuSO4⋅5H2O) at a current density of 1.5-2 A/dm2 for 8-12 minutes. The resulting powder with a two-layer titanium-copper barrier coating is sent for filtration, then washed and dried.
EFFECT: thermal stability of titanium hydride is increased.
