FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to special electrometallurgy, namely, to vacuum arc remelting of austenitic steels. Method involves production of a cast consumable electrode in a vacuum induction furnace from austenitic steel, guidance of a liquid metal bath in a crystallizer, output to the working mode of melting ensuring vacuum arc remelting of the mentioned consumable electrode in the crystallizer of the furnace, the final part of the melting with obtaining of the ingot, which is subjected to treatment till the workpiece is produced. After guiding the liquid metal bath and reaching the working mode of the melting, the alternating magnetic field generated by the solenoid wound on the non-magnetic crystallizer jacket and its current source is exposed to the electric arc and to the surface of the liquid metal bath, at simultaneous cooling of fusion ingot with helium, wherein sign-alternating magnetic field with intensity of 40÷50 Oe is used and switching frequency 0.1÷1.0 Hz.
EFFECT: invention allows to stabilize the consumable electrodes melting process, increase the ingot side surface improvement due to improved casting of the side surface of the ingots and obtain an equiaxial, fine-grained structure of the ingot.
