METHOD FOR MODELING A SPINAL CORD INJURY WITH PERSISTENT NEUROLOGICAL DEFICIT Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G09B23/28 A61B17/00

Abstract RU 2763666 C1

FIELD: experimental medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to experimental medicine, namely to neurosurgery. The rat is laid in a prone position. The skin is cut longitudinally above the spine 1-2 vertebrae above and below the planned level. A bone fragment of the spinous process of the vertebra is removed at the expected level of injury and access to the posterior surface of the dural sac with the underlying spinal cord at a given level is opened. The dura mater is left intact. A blow is applied to the spinal cord area, dropping a load, which is a steel cylinder weighing 114.6 g, from a height of 20 cm along a guiding polyethylene tube, exerting an impact equal to 0.224 N/cm2, forming hemiparesis, or a blow to the spinal cord area, dropping a weight, which is a steel cylinder weighing 114.6 g, from a height of 10 cm along a guiding polyethylene tube, exerting an effect equal to 0.112 N/cm2, forming a monoparesis. After injury, the skin of the animals is sutured. The suture is treated with an antiseptic solution, therapy is carried out with a solution of gentamicin intramuscularly.

EFFECT: method provides modeling conditions that maximally reproduce the clinical picture of severe focal spinal cord injury without the death of a laboratory animal, which is necessary for monitoring and developing methods for restoring the functions of the spinal cord in the post-traumatic period; weight ranges of experimental animals, depending on age.
