FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of special electrometallurgy, namely, to vacuum arc remelting of highly reactive metals and alloys, and can be used in smelting ingots from manganese-alloyed titanium alloys. The furnace is evacuated, an arc is ignited in the vacuum, a working gas medium is supplied into the chamber of the furnace until the working pressure, and the basic remelting process is conducted at this pressure, the end of the remelting process is the removal of the shrinkhole. A mixture of inert gases containing 15 to 85% helium, argon the rest, is used as a working gas medium, wherein the working gas mixture is supplied to the furnace chamber until a pressure of 2 to 7 kPa. After the basic remelting mode is ended, the pressure of the working gas mixture is reduced to a value of 0.2 to 5 kPa and a transfer to the mode of removal of the shrinkhole is executed.
EFFECT: invention provides a possibility of increasing the metal yield by improving the penetration of the side and gate surfaces of the ingot.
