SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring equipment and can be used for non-contact measurement of the length of metal pipes. The technical result is achieved by the fact that in the method for measuring the length of a metal pipe, wherein the examined pipe is placed in isolation over a grounded metal plane, as in a segment of a long line, open at the ends, electromagnetic signals are excited at the first end thereof and the reflected signals are received, in the first cycle of measurements, the total time Δt1 of forward and reverse propagation of electromagnetic signals along the segment of a long line is measured, additionally, in the second cycle of measurements, in one of the sections of the segment of a long line, said segment is short-circuited at a fixed length from the first open end, and the total time Δt 2 of forward and reverse propagation of electromagnetic video signals along the segment of a long line, reflected from the short-circuit point, is measured, joint conversion of the measured values Δt 1 and Δt 2 is conducted.
