FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ophthalmic devices, such as contact lenses, which contain grafted polymer networks. The device is formed using a polymer composition obtained by a method including: (a) providing the first reactive composition containing: (i) a polymerization initiator that is capable of forming two or more free radical groups upon first activation, at least one of which can additionally be activated upon subsequent activation, (ii) one or more ethylene unsaturated compounds, and (iii) a cross-linking agent; (b) subjecting the first reactive composition to the first activation stage so that the first reactive composition is polymerized on it to form a cross-linked substrate network containing a covalently bound activated initiator of free radical polymerization; (c) bringing into contact the cross-linked substrate network with a grafting composition containing one or more ethylene-unsaturated compounds, wherein bringing into contact is carried out under such conditions that the grafting composition penetrates the cross-linked substrate network; and (d) activating the covalently bound activated initiator of free radical polymerization in one or more selected areas of the cross-linked substrate network in such a way that the grafting composition is polymerized with the cross-linked substrate network in selected areas.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to provide individually selected properties of an ophthalmic device.
