FIELD: ophthalmic devices.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an ophthalmic device, which is a free radical reaction product of a reaction mixture containing: one or more monomers suitable for the manufacture of an ophthalmic device and a polymerisable high-energy radiation absorbing compound of formula III, where m and n are independently equal to 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4; X represents O, S, NR, SO or SO2; Y is a linking group; Pg is a polymerisable group; R at each occurrence is independently represented by H, C1-C6 alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, or YPg; and R1 and R2, if present, at each occurrence are independently represented by C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, C1-C6 thioalkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, aryl, halogen, hydroxy, amino, NR3R4 or benzyl, while R3 and R4 are independently represented by H or C1-C6 alkyl, or two adjacent R1 or R2 groups together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a cycloalkyl or aryl ring. Also described is a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic device, including the polymerization of a mixture containing compounds of formula III.
EFFECT: absorption of various wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation and/or high-energy radiation of the blue part of the visible spectrum.
