SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of control of sedimentation in diesel engines. Proposed is a method for controlling sedimentation in a diesel engine provided with a high-pressure fuel system, wherein the method includes burning a diesel fuel composition in the engine, including, as an additive, a reaction product of hydrocarbyl-substituted polycarbonic acid or an anhydride thereof and a polybasic alcohol of the formula H-(OR)n-OH, wherein R constitutes an non-substituted alkylene group or one or more saccharide units and n is no less than 1, wherein the method ensures the presence of the “purification” characteristic. Also disclosed is an application of the additive as a detergent ensuring the presence of the “purification" characteristic.
EFFECT: reduction or prevention of sedimentation in the diesel engine.
