FIELD: diesel fuel.

SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to a method for the preparation, composition and use of quaternary ammonium compounds as additives for diesel fuel compositions that are used to operate diesel engines with high pressure fuel systems. A method for producing a quaternary ammonium compound having formula (I) involves reacting a tertiary amine having formula R1R2R3N with an epoxide in the presence of a compound having formula (IIB)

where X represents CH2CHR or CRHCH2, R represents an alkyl or alkenyl group containing from 6 to 36 carbon atoms; R4 represents an unsubstituted alkylene group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; n is from 1 to 20; c is at least 1; W represents O- or OH; b is equal to 1 if W is OH and b is equal to 2 if W is O-; and wherein each of R1 and R2 independently represents an alkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; and R3 is selected from an alkyl group containing from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or benzyl, or a hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyalkoxyalkyl group containing from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; and R0 represents a group having the formula

where each of R9, R10, R11 represent hydrogen and R12 represents hydrogen, phenyl, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 50 carbon atoms, CH2OR13 or CH2OCOR14, R13 represents an alkyl or aryl group containing from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and R14 represents an alkyl or aryl group containing from 1 to 30 carbon atoms.

EFFECT: provision of a method, a composition and their application that make it possible to improve the performance characteristics of a diesel engine, in particular, including a high-pressure fuel system, to prevent or reduce the intensity of the formation of internal deposits in diesel engine injectors (IDDI), to reduce or remove existing IDDI, to provide control of external deposits on the injector and/or deposits on the fuel filter.
