SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a diesel fuel composition comprising diesel fuel and, as an additive, a reaction product of a polycarboxylic acid containing not more than carbon atoms per carboxylic acid group, or its anhydride with a monoatomic alcohol containing at least 5 carbon atoms, where polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride are selected from itaconic acid, citraconic acid, 2-methyleneglutaric acid, 2-methyladipic acid, isocitric acid, 2-hydroxycitric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, 2-hydroxyglutaric acid, aconitic acid and anhydrides and/or isomers of said acids, also relates to a method of improving engine performance, where the method includes burning in the engine a fuel composition comprising fuel and, as an additive, a reaction product of a polycarboxylic acid containing not more than carbon atoms per carboxylic acid group, or its anhydride with a monohydric alcohol containing at least 5 carbon atoms, where polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride are selected from itaconic acid, citraconic acid, 2-methyleneglutaric acid, 2-methyladipic acid, isocitric acid, 2-hydroxycitric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, 2-hydroxyglutaric acid, aconitic acid and anhydrides and/or isomers of said acids, and where the engine is a diesel engine or an engine with direct fuel injection and positive ignition, and also relates to the use of a reaction product of a polycarboxylic acid containing not more than 5 carbon atoms per carboxylic acid group, or an anhydride thereof with a monoatomic alcohol containing at least 5 carbon atoms, as an additive for a fuel composition in order to improve the performance of an engine in which the fuel composition is combusted, where polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride are selected from itaconic acid, citraconic acid, 2-methyleneglutaric acid, 2-methyladipic acid, isocitric acid, 2-hydroxycitric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, 2-hydroxyglutaric acid, aconitic acid and anhydrides and/or isomers of said acids, and where the engine is a diesel engine or an engine with direct fuel injection and positive ignition.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides improved performance of a diesel engine due to reduction or removal of deposits in the engine.
