FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: electrosurgical instrument comprises a coaxial power cable for transmitting microwave energy and radio frequency energy. The coaxial power cable comprises an inner conductor, an outer conductor, and a dielectric material separating the inner conductor and the outer conductor. An emitting tip is located at the distal end of the coaxial cable for receiving microwave energy and radio frequency energy. The emitting tip comprises a longitudinally-extending dielectric main part; a distal electrode and a proximal electrode, located on the surface of the dielectric main part. The distal electrode and the proximal electrode are physically separated from each other in the longitudinal direction by an intermediate part of the longitudinally-extending dielectric main part. A tuning element is installed in the intermediate part of the longitudinally-extending dielectric main part and is electrically connected with the inner conductor. The tuning element comprises a conductive part installed inside the intermediate part of the dielectric main part. The distal electrode is electrically connected with the inner conductor. The proximal electrode is electrically connected with the outer conductor. The distal electrode and the proximal electrode are made as an active electrode and a return electrode for delivering radio frequency energy. The emitting tip acts as an antenna for emitting microwave energy. Disclosed is an electrosurgical system.
