SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and can be used in tool production for surface hardening of metal-cutting tools. A coating based on the Ti-Al system is obtained by applying it to a workpiece 2 by vacuum-arc deposition from two electric arc evaporators from single-component cathodes made of titanium 3 and aluminum 4; in the chamber, the working pressure is 8⋅10-3-5⋅10-2 Pa, ion cleaning, heating and surface activation are carried out in two stages, and its heating at the first stage is carried out to a temperature of 300-350°C using a high-current plasma source with a hollow cathode 5 in an inert argon gas environment, at the second stage, the surface of part 2 is heated to a temperature of 400-450°C by electric arc evaporators in an inert argon gas environment, after which the first layer of titanium is applied in an argon inert gas environment, after which a coating is applied based on the Ti system -Al in a mixture of nitrogen and acetylene gases with the formation of phases TiN, AlN, TiAl, Ti3Al, TiAl3, TiC, TiAlC while assisting the process with a high-current plasma m source also using a hollow cathode.
EFFECT: improving the quality, durability and uniformity of the coating.
