METHOD FOR RESTORING THE FUNCTIONS OF THE SPINAL CORD AFTER TRANSECTION THEREOF, USING PEG-CHITOSAN CONJUGATE Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC G09B23/28 A61B17/00 A61K31/722 A61K31/745 A61P25/00

Abstract RU 2782119 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely, experimental medicine, neurosurgery, and regenerative medicine, and can be used to restore the functions of the spinal cord after transection thereof. PEG-chitosan is synthesised by covalent binding of PEG with cross-linked chitosan. After making an access to the spinal cord and slightly incising the pia mater, a PEG-chitosan conjugate agent synthesised by covalent binding is injected into the subdural space; the spinal cord is transected and resected within the viable part. The PEG-chitosan conjugate is then injected into the subdural space and spinal cord diastasis in the amount necessary to cover the surface of segments of the spinal cord and to fill the diastasis. The segments of the spinal cord are approximated, sutures are applied to the pia mated, the dura mater is sutured, and an aqueous solution of polyethylene glycol is injected intravenously.

EFFECT: method ensures the restoration of the functional and morphological integrity of the spinal cord after complete or partial transection thereof or in the event of contusion or rupture thereof, due to the intraoperative introduction of a chitosan and polyethylene glycol conjugate into the spinal cord diastasis.
