FIELD: electro-optical display devices.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electro-optical display devices. The display contains an electrophoretic display medium electrically connected between at least one pixel electrode of the display and the first common electrode, wherein at least one pixel electrode is connected to the first terminal of the storage capacitor, and the second common electrode is connected to the second terminal of the storage capacitor. The method for excitation of an electro-optical display includes: supplying a sequence of oscillatory signals to at least one pixel display electrode to provide excitation voltages in the electrophoretic display environment between at least one pixel display electrode and the first common display electrode and connecting a storage capacitor to the first bias voltage supplied to the second common electrode; maintaining a voltage level at the at least one display pixel electrode after completion of the waveform sequence by placing the at least one display pixel electrode and the first common electrode in a floating state; and discharging the last frame voltage level on the at least one display pixel electrode by discharging the storage capacitor through the second common electrode, wherein during the discharging step, the first bias voltage applied to the second common electrode is zero voltage.
EFFECT: invention provides reduction of residual voltage in electrophoretic displays.
