FIELD: medicine, cardiovascular surgery.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to select the width of the patch for performing a classic carotid endarterectomy (CCE). Before performing the operation, computed tomography with angiography of the patient’s affected carotid bifurcation is performed taking images of the carotid arteries in the DICOM format to download to the SimVascular software with subsequent modelling of the affected carotid bifurcation of the patient. Then the resulting image is loaded into the Salome software followed by modelling of the ICA vessel segment after the removal of atherosclerotic plaque. Then, in the same program, implantation of patches 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm wide into the wall of the internal carotid artery is alternately modeled. After that, the obtained simulation images are loaded into the OpenFoam software which determines the speed and direction of blood flow when using each of the patches followed by a virtual simulation of the desired patch width, ensuring the absence of turbulent changes in blood flow and an increase in blood flow velocity in the carotid arteries. EFFECT: exclusion of the risk of neointima hyperplasia due to the choice of the optimal size of the implanted patch.
