FIELD: casting.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of steel. Device (100) for assessment of a thickness of solidified crust (9) in crystallizer (1) contains an input device, a database of models, a converter, and a device for calculation of a heat transfer model. The input device receives data on a temperature and components of steel in an intermediate bucket, a width, a thickness, and a speed of a workpiece, and distribution of a speed of steel flows in the crystallizer. The database stores mathematical expressions of models and a parameter related to a reaction of steel solidification in the crystallizer. The converter converts a speed of a steel flow in the crystallizer into heat conductivity of steel of a semi-solidified area in the crystallizer. The device for calculation of a heat transfer model assesses a thickness of crust in the crystallizer based on distribution of a temperature of the crystallizer and steel in the crystallizer, calculated by a three-dimensional non-stationary equation of heat conductivity, using the results of measurements of the input device, and the mentioned parameters.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of assessment of a thickness of solidified crust in a crystallizer, including directions of a width and a thickness of the crystallizer.
