FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of blanks. The device for estimating the thickness of the hardened shell in the mould of equipment for continuous casting of blanks contains an input device, a database of heat transfer models, a device for calculating the heat transfer model. The input device receives input data on the results of measuring the temperatures of the molten steel and the copper plate of the mould, the width and thickness of the cast billet, the casting speed, the amount of heat removed from the mould, and the chemical composition of the steel. Based on these inputs, the heat transfer model solver estimates the thickness of the solidified shell in the mould by calculating the temperature distributions of the mould and the molten steel inside it by solving a non-stationary three-dimensional heat transfer equation. The heat transfer model calculator corrects errors in the temperature of the copper plate and the amount of heat removed from the mould by correcting the overall heat transfer coefficient between the copper plate and the solidified shell.
EFFECT: provides accurate determination of the thickness of the shell in the mould.
