SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an aerosol generating system (10) comprising a first air inlet (22) and an air outlet (24). The aerosol generating system may further comprise a liquid storage portion (40). The liquid storage portion can hold a liquid substrate forming an aerosol. The liquid storage part may have a liquid outlet (42). The aerosol generating system may further comprise an airflow passage from the air inlet to the air outlet past the liquid outlet. The aerosol generating system may further comprise a wick (26). The wick may be located in the air flow passage. The wick may be positioned to receive liquid from the liquid storage portion in response to a pressure drop in the air flow passage at the liquid outlet.

EFFECT: aerosol generating system may further comprise a first heating element (28) positioned to heat the liquid in the wick; the wick may be located at a distance from the liquid outlet.
