SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for evaluating partial discharge signals that are registered near the insulation of an electrical external wire of a multi-phase alternating current, the alternating currents of which, flowing in the corresponding external wire, have constant phase shifts relative to each other, only in one place or are recorded in several places and superimposed to each other. In the method, at least one characteristic value (K) of partial discharge signals is determined, and each partial discharge signal is associated with the position of the phase of alternating currents at the moment of registration of the partial discharge signal. For each partial discharge signal, a characteristic quantity value of each characteristic quantity (K) is determined, and a numerical set is associated with each partial discharge signal, which is formed from each characteristic quantity value of the partial discharge signal and the phase position associated with the partial discharge signal. Clusters (C) of partial discharge signals are determined in a multidimensional space with points (V) formed by numerical sets, and from the determined clusters (C) for each external wire, the activity of partial discharges is determined.

EFFECT: technical result of the claimed group of inventions is to improve the accuracy of estimating partial discharge signals that are recorded near the insulation of external electric wires of a multi-phase alternating current in only one place or are recorded in several places and superimposed on each other.
