FIELD: wastewater treatment; air purification from aromatic hydrocarbons.

SUBSTANCE: method for producing crushed activated carbon includes processing petroleum coke with an inorganic activator, heat treatment in an inert environment and activation with superheated water vapour at a temperature of 900±50°C. As an inorganic activating agent, a solution of H3PO4 with a concentration of 1-10 wt.% is used in a mass ratio of coke:acid solution equal to 1:2. Heat treatment is carried out at a temperature of 800±25°C using the method of thermal shock in the environment of its own decomposition products for 1-3 hours. Activation is carried out for 45-60 minutes.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain sorbents having a sorption capacity for benzene of 140-210 mg/g of sorbent, a degree of phenol extraction from a solution with a concentration of 1 g/l of more than 99%, to reduce the amount of liquid waste and the duration of the process.
