FIELD: traffic optimization.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to a method for calculating the lateral position of a given vehicle in a traffic lane. The method comprises first, second, third and/or fourth stages. At the first stage, the first theoretical lateral position of the given vehicle on the lane is calculated depending on the lateral position on the lane of the vehicles in front of the given vehicle and/or the vehicles following behind the given vehicle. At the second stage, the second theoretical lateral position of the given vehicle on the traffic lane is calculated depending on the position of the vehicles on the traffic lanes adjacent to the specified traffic lane. At the third stage, the third theoretical lateral position of the given vehicle in the lane is calculated depending on the static obstacles found on the sides of the said lane. At the fourth stage, the lateral position of the given vehicle is calculated using the weighted average of the first lateral position, the second lateral position, and the third lateral position.
EFFECT: optimization of safe lateral distances with vehicles or obstacles is achieved.
