SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to capsular polysaccharides from Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes. A polysaccharide-carrier protein conjugate is disclosed, where the polysaccharide contains a repeating unit of the specified structure, where each x independently denotes a molar ratio of 0–1.0; wherein the carrier protein is CRM197 and wherein the polysaccharide-carrier protein conjugate has a polysaccharide to carrier protein weight ratio of 0.5–2.0. Besides, the invention relates to polysaccharide-protein conjugates in which capsular polysaccharides from one or more of these serotypes are conjugated to a carrier protein such as CRM197. Moreover, an alternative polysaccharide-carrier protein conjugate is disclosed, wherein the carrier protein is CRM197 and wherein the polysaccharide-carrier protein conjugate has a molecular weight of 1,000–10,000 kDa.
