SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a mannose oligosaccharide composition used for treating a human or an animal. The following is disclosed: a composition of mannose oligosaccharide containing mannose oligosaccharide, the content of which is 40 wt.% db or more, and the solubility of the composition in water is from 20 to 90%, measured as 10 wt.% aqueous solution of the composition at 40°C, wherein the mannose oligosaccharide is a mannose oligosaccharide having a DP of 3 or more. Also a food product, animal feed, cosmetic product, personal care product and an antimicrobial pharmaceutical preparation containing the said composition are disclosed. In addition, a method of preparing the said mannose oligosaccharide composition and its use to improve animal growth performance, to reduce microbial or bacterial contamination, and to reduce Salmonella and/or E. coli infestation is disclosed.
