FIELD: biotechnology; molecular genetics.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to identify genotypes to determine a person and the ethnicity of a person based on a sample of his DNA using a system of Y-chromosome microsatellite DNA markers. A set of genetic markers is presented. The set contains synthetic oligonucleotide primers representing the nucleotide sequences of the following SEQ ID NO: 1–70 and defining 38 short tandem repeats localized on the non-recombining region of the Y chromosome (DYS19, DYS385a, DYS385b, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, DYS439, DYS442, DYS445, DYS448, DYS449, DYS456, DYS458, DYS460, DYS481, DYS504, DYS505, DYS518, DYS525, DYS533, DYS537, DYS552, DYS570, DYS576, DYS635, DYS 643, YCAIIa, YCAIIb, GATA-H4.1, Y-GATA-A10, GGAAT1B07, DYF387a, DYF387b). A method of identifying genotypes to determine a person in the Russian population using the above primers is proposed.

EFFECT: selected microsatellite markers are highly informative for most population samples.
