FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to radiation diagnostics and can be used for differential diagnosis of sialadenitis in patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the large salivary glands is performed to determine their size. If an increase in the size of the major salivary glands is detected, MRI is performed in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) mode with a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the structure of the major salivary glands. If DWI shows diffusion limitation and measured diffusion coefficient (MDC) of ≤ 2.9 mm2/s, then alcoholic aetiology of sialadenitis is detected. If DWI shows no diffusion limitation and MDC of ≤2.9 mm2/s, then viral aetiology of sialadenitis is detected. If MDC is ≥ 3 mm2/s, then sialadenitis has a non-viral and non-alcoholic aetiology.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to determine the aetiology of sialadenitis using the stated DWI MRI data.
