FIELD: aerosol-generating systems.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol cooling element for use in an aerosol-generating article containing an aerosol-generating substrate, and an aerosol-generating article containing such an aerosol cooling element. An aerosol-generating article for generating an aerosol upon heating comprises: a rod of an aerosol-generating substrate containing an aerosol-generating agent, the aerosol-generating substrate having an aerosol-generating agent content of greater than 10 percent on a dry weight basis; a hollow tubular support element located downstream immediately after the aerosol-generating substrate rod; and a first aerosol cooling element located downstream of the hollow tubular support element. The aerosol cooling element comprises a hollow tubular segment comprising a peripheral wall and a transverse wall at a location between an upstream end and a downstream end of the hollow tubular segment, such that the hollow tubular segment defines a first cavity located upstream of the transverse wall, and the second cavity located further downstream relative to the transverse wall. The transverse wall includes one or more transverse openings providing fluid communication between the first cavity and the second cavity. The peripheral wall includes one or more peripheral openings located at one or more longitudinal locations remote from the transverse wall such that fluid communication is provided between the area outside the hollow tubular segment and at least one of the first cavity and the second cavity.
