SUBSTANCE: turning cutting inserts for working with high advance, turning tool holders, and turning tool assemblies containing such cutters. A bidirectional high-feed turning tool assembly contains a holder, a cutting insert, and a clamping element that secures the cutting insert in the holder. The cutting insert comprises an active cutting edge comprising a centrally located leading edge portion, as well as the first and the second major edge portions extending rearwardly from the leading edge portion, as well as laterally to a distance exceeding the sides of the holder. The first and the second main edge portions may have a relatively small plunge angle.
EFFECT: turning with high advance in two lateral directions is provided.
