FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fibre-optic materials and a method of producing especially pure heat-resistant chalco-iodide glass which can be used in making fibre-optic guides used in optics and near- and middle-infrared range optoelectronic devices. The method of producing especially pure heat-resistant chalco-iodide glass involves loading charge components into a reactor, wherein the charge components used are chalcogens and other starting substances - glass macrocomponents, synthesis of a glass-forming melt, homogenisation thereof and cooling. The charge components used, along with the chalcogens, are volatile iodides. Synthesis of glass-forming compounds is carried out in a reactor which is connected to a separation section, with controlled rate of heating and outlet of iodine from the reactor, which is formed during chemical conversion of starting iodides, and returning unreacted iodides to the reaction zone until achieving given gross composition of the melt.

EFFECT: fewer contaminants in the glass.
