FIELD: measuring technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for identifying petroleum hydrocarbons. The method for identifying combustion initiators based on petroleum hydrocarbons differs in that the identification parameter of the petroleum product is the content of indicator metals, in particular vanadium, nickel, and chromium. As identity criteria, paired proportions of concentrations of indicator metals, their functional dependencies, including those presented as vectors in multidimensional space, as well as the relative ratio of paired proportions of concentrations of indicator metals, their absolute values, ranking and range of values are used.
EFFECT: high degree of reliability in establishing a connection between a specific suspect and objects seized from the fire scene, as well as operability of the method after a long period of time after the fire.
