FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of detection, identification and remote monitoring of hydrocarbon contaminants of aqueous media and can be used for rapid visual detection of spills and leaks of liquid hydrocarbon fuel. Invention relates to indicator element for detection and identification of spills of liquid hydrocarbons of oil and oil products containing sorbent of hydrocarbons, made in form of indicator substrate from absorbent material, and a solid-phase chromogenic carrier of the indicator, which is in form of at least one thread impregnated with at least one solution of indicator substance fixed by piercing on the surface of the indicator substrate, which is selectively soluble in hydrocarbons of oil and oil products, but which is insoluble in water.
EFFECT: simplified design of indicator element, increased sensitivity and reliability of operation.
