FIELD: veterinary medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns a method of the prevention of colibacillosis in calves. A method of the prevention of escherichiosis in calves includes the use of a vaccine against escherichiosis containing a cell-free culture medium consisting of 0.4% thermolabile, thermostable and Shiga-like Escherichia coli toxins inactivated by formalin to its final concentration of 0.4% obtained by mixing equal proportions of epizootic strains of Escherichia coli with subsequent separation bacterial mass using sterilizing filtration and adjuvants added alternately, followed by stirring, into a cell-free culture medium. Calves are immunized twice with this vaccine subcutaneously in the area of the upper third of the neck — for the first and second times in a dose of 2 ml, and pregnant cows from which the calves are obtained are immunized twice with the same vaccine: for the first and second times — in a dose of 10 ml subcutaneously in the area of the upper third of the neck. As adjuvants, a 2% suspension of Al(OH)3 and an oil adjuvant are used, consisting of an emulsifier — a biologically inert organosilicon compound cetyl-PEG/PPG-10/1-dimethicone in an amount of 1.5% and an oil base — vaccine oil "M" in the amount of 98.5%. The vaccine components are taken in the following ratio of components, wt.%: 2% suspension of Al(OH)3 — 19–21, oil adjuvant — 49–51, cell-free culture medium consisting of thermolabile, thermostable and Shiga-like Escherichia coli toxins inactivated by formaldehyde to its final concentration of 0.4% — up to 100. The first immunization of calves is performed at the age of 13–15 days and the second at the age of 19–21 days. And for pregnant cows, the first immunization is performed 45 days before calving, and the second — 15 days before calving.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of specific prevention of escherichiosis in calves and expanding the range of drugs for the prevention of this disease.
