SUBSTANCE: before the start of radiation therapy and 8 weeks after radiation therapy the patients undergo high-resolution anorectal manometry to determine the maximum compression pressure, mmHg, and the volume of the first sensation, ml. When the maximum compression pressure decreases by 30% or more from the initial level and when the volume of the first sensation increases by 60% or more from the initial level, the development of severe low anterior resection syndrome is predicted 3 months after closure of the ileostomy.

EFFECT: method is informative, minimally invasive, and makes it possible to identify groups of patients with a high risk of developing severe low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) for their careful monitoring with a view to timely implementation of adequate preventive and rehabilitation measures, which will improve the social adaptation of patients.
