FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of thermal neutrons. Thermal neutron diamond detector consists of a diamond plate, two contact electrodes, an upper and a lower one; lower electrode is made in the form of a set of graphite columns located in the volume of the diamond plate so that the distance from the ends of the graphite columns to the upper contact electrode does not exceed (5–10) mcm; bases of graphite columns are connected in parallel to common terminal for supply of bias voltage, wherein (0.5–3) mcm-thick thermal neutron converter is formed in the form of a "buried" layer inside the diamond sensitive layer under the upper contact electrode and at some distance from ends of graphite columns forming lower electrode.
EFFECT: high sensitivity of the detector, high efficiency of the neutron radiation detection process.
