FIELD: metal working.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal working and can be used to control the state of the cutting edge of a blade tool. Proposed method comprises heating and feeding thermoplastic polymer into tube tightly fitted on tool cutting edge and surrounding its surface. At that, performing copying of entire surface of cutting edge with formation of its mould, after cooling, the produced mould is removed from the tube, scanned by X-ray computed tomography, and a volumetric model of the mould is reconstructed and constructed using special software. Geometric dimensions of wear and build-up on the cutting edge of the tool are analysed.

EFFECT: use of the invention makes it possible to more accurately establish the state of the cutting tool without its dismantling and reinstallation.
