FIELD: nanotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nanotechnology and specifically to a method of forming carbon quantum dots for use as biomarkers, as well as in photonics, high-speed optoelectronics and information technologies. Method of producing quantum dots involves dispersing initial material in a solvent, laser fragmentation of the initial material, wherein to obtain flat-shaped quantum dots with radii in range of 0.6 to 1.3 nm and a diamond-like microstructure, carbon material in the form of single-wall nanotubes is used as the initial material, the nanotubes are dispersed in water, and nanotubes are fragmented by laser radiation with wavelength of 1,064 nm, pulses of 100 ns duration, pulse frequency of 20 to 90 kHz, pulse energy of 0.2 to 1 mJ and energy density in beam of 35 to 160 J/cm2. Invention enables to obtain luminescent carbon quantum dots of a flat shape in the range of radii from 0.6 to 1.3 nm with a diamond-like microstructure.
EFFECT: obtaining biocompatible luminescent carbon quantum dots with a wide emission spectral range.
