FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of pesticides, in particular, to a method of producing metsulfuron-methyl (methyl 2-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbamoylsulfamoyl]benzoate (I)), which is a selective systemic pre- and post-emergence herbicide of sulphonylureas. Method involves reaction of methyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate with 2-(phenoxycarbonyl)amino-4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine in a polar organic solvent in the presence of an organic base at temperature of 20–25 °C for 1–2 hours. Obtained reaction mass is then treated with water and acid to obtain the desired product, which is then separated and purified.

EFFECT: simplification of process equipment, reduction of process duration, elimination of use of high temperatures, as well as unstable, dangerous and toxic starting compounds, intermediate products and reagents, higher safety of the process and obtaining the end product of high quality with output of 82–87%.
