FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a device for evaluating filter material of a test article. Device comprises (i) a test chamber comprising an inlet and an outlet; (ii) an introduction system configured to introduce the test contaminant into the test chamber such that the test contaminant is entrapped by air flowing from the inlet to the outlet; (iii) a support configured to hold the test article, wherein the support forms a passage downstream of the location of the test article such that air flowing from the inlet to the outlet passes through the filter material before entering the passage; (iv) an air supply device configured to draw air from the test chamber through the passage and the outlet; and (v) a respiratory state simulator system configured to simulate a respiration aspect, an environmental simulation system configured to simulate an environment aspect, or both a respiratory state simulation system and an environment simulation system.

EFFECT: design of a universal compact device for evaluating filter material of a test article with expanded analysis capabilities.
