FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to a method of producing 2,4-dimethylquinoline, which is used in medicine, optical materials and methods of analysis. Method of production involves catalytic cyclocondensation of 2-aminoacetophenone with acetone and is characterized by that the catalyst used is granular Yh or ZSM-5h zeolites in H-form with a hierarchical porous structure, with catalyst content of 5-40 wt.% with respect to 2-aminoacetophenone. Process is carried out in an autoclave at autogenous pressure of 180 °C, molar ratio of 2-aminoacetophenone : acetone 1:1-3, for 1-5 hours.
EFFECT: providing a simplified method of synthesis of the end product, reducing energy and material consumption of the heterocyclisation process.
