SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device for monitoring the installation of a ropeway, comprising one such observation device, and to a method of monitoring installation of a ropeway. Device for monitoring installation of ropeway, comprising transport vehicle (3), designed for towing by means of rope (2), comprises: means for detecting (17) the entrance of vehicle (3) into passage zone (15), means for calculating (18) a variable representing the length of rope (2), means for comparing (19) the calculated variable with a threshold value and determination means (20) configured to determine reception of an event indicating the exit of vehicle (3) from passage zone (15). Surveillance device is configured to transmit a fault signal (Sd) after the calculated variable has reached a threshold value and the event has not been received.
EFFECT: as a result, a means of observing the correct passage of vehicles towed by a rope when crossing observation points is created, wherein said means is simple and reliable.
