FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of applying a coating based on Al2O3 with a phase γ-Al2O3 on the cutting tool. Ion cleaning is carried out with a high-current plasma source with a hollow cathode while heating the cutting tool to temperature of 400-450°C in argon protective gas medium. Then ion cleaning is carried out using aluminium electric arc evaporators with heating of cutting tool to temperature of 450-490°C in argon protective gas medium. Oxygen is then introduced into the chamber and working pressure of 4⋅10-1 Pa. Vacuum-arc evaporation of aluminium electric-arc evaporators is carried out in a mixture of oxygen and argon in ratio of 1:1 with deposition of a coating based on Al2O3 with a phase γ-Al2O3 with ion assistance using a high-current plasma source with a hollow cathode.
EFFECT: obtaining a coating based on Al2O3 with a phase γ-Al2O3, which is uniformly distributed on the surface of the cutting tool, wherein there are no visible defects of the coating continuity.
