FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to X-ray diagnostics and oncology, and can be used to assess the probability of developing post-radiation hypothyroidism in the patients after combined or complex treatment of malignant neoplasms of the head and neck. Thyroid ultrasonic examination in grey-scale mode is carried out, followed by examination in compression sonoelastography mode. A thyroid stiffness coefficient is determined, and if the thyroid stiffness coefficient is more than 1.26, the development of post-radiation hypothyroidism is predicted.
EFFECT: method enables assessing the probability of post-radiation hypothyroidism in the patients with an oncological profile after the combined or complex treatment by determining the threshold value of the stiffness coefficient.
